Japanese Club

Japanese course for the sixth form and Japanese club for pupils in KS3 and KS4.

For over 10 years in Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig, we have been offering Japanese and this has been a great success, with pupils learning and discovering the language and culture of Japan.

Join us and develop your interest!

The course for Yrs 12 & 13 is offered as a part of the Welsh Baccalaureate language module and the club is offered to younger pupils once a week to discover something new.  Both offer a unique insight into the following aspects:

1)      Language

Learn how to read, write and speak Japanese

2)      Cultural experiences

Opportunities to do origami, calligraphy, tea ceremony, try Japanese food and much more!

3)      Japan Day

Each year Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig invites primary school pupils to Japan Day to try some Japanese activities.  The sixth form are the leaders on this day and they do a very good job!

4)      Opportunities to communicate with Japanese students

Throughout the course, we exchange self-introduction videos and season’s greetings cards with Japanese high-school students.  Also, you will have an opportunity to host Japanese students or visit Japan as a part of the Yosano-Aberystwyth Friendship Association.

Fumi Inui, the tutor, is a native Japanese teacher who arrived in Ceredigion under the government-authorized exchange scheme, REX Programme.  She is a qualified teacher in Japan who has special training to teach Japanese in other countries.  Ceredigion is unique in the whole United Kingdom to benefit from this programme.
